Our Classes

All classes are family style classes for children ranging in age from birth through age four.  This essential class follows the recommendations of child development researchers—grouping children of a variety of ages because this fosters natural, family-style learning. Younger children enjoy watching and imitating older ones; older children learn by leading younger ones; and adults are happy because the children in the family can go to class together.

Each child participates at his or her own level in singing, moving, chanting, listening, watching, or exploring musical instruments. Even our newborn music makers produce tones, shake their hands, tap their toes, wiggle, and absorb what others around them are singing and playing. The emphasis is upon creating a fun, informal, intergenerational musical experience powered by the caregiver/child dyad.  Any caregivers—parents, grandparents, nanny—can bring the children. The whole family is welcome for this important family music experience. 

 

Classes are offered in 9 week semesters (fall, winter, spring) and 6 week summer semesters.  Weekly 45-minute classes include songs, rhythmic rhymes, movement, and instrument play. These activities are presented as informal, non-performance-oriented musical experiences--developmentally appropriate for children and easy for parents and caregivers--regardless of their own musical ability. Tuition includes: 

  • illustrated songbook, CD and access code to unlock the  music in "Hello Everybody" app 
  • Music Development and Growth Chart 
  • "How to Support Your Child's Music Development" guidebook chock-full of the research behind every little thing we do in class

 

Fall, Winter, and Spring Tuition is $195 for the first child and $85 for siblings over nine months old. Summer tuition is $135 for the first child and $50 for siblings over nine months old. There is a $10 one-time registration fee for those new to Music Together of Hampton Roads. 

Sing Along and Pop-up classes are a great way for new families to experience a Music Together® class. The cost is $22 for the first child and $10 for siblings over nine months old.

Mixed Age

This is the essential Music Together class, one that a child can attend from birth through age five—and through all nine song collections. This basic class follows the recommendations of child development researchers, grouping children of a variety of ages in one class. This approach fosters natural, family-style learning where younger children enjoy watching and imitating older ones; older children learn by leading younger ones; and adults are happy because the children in the family can go to class together.

Each child participates at his or her own developmental level in singing, moving, chanting, listening, observing, or exploring musical instruments. We welcome the whole family to join in this important family music experience, and any caregiver—parents, grandparents, nanny—can bring the child(ren) to class.

Each semester includes:

  • 9 weekly 45-minute classes teaching a new song collection every fall, winter and spring. 6 weekly 45-minute classes teaching a new song collection every summer.
  • New CDs each semester with the songs, rhythm chantes, "play-alongs," tonal and rhythm patterns used in class.
  • Beautifully illustrated songbook with family activities to enjoy at home.
  • Parent education resources and online resources.

 Babies

Every child’s development benefits from early exposure to music and movement. Because the early months are so important, Music Together offers two options for babies ages eight months and younger. Babies are always welcome to attend a Mixed Ages Class, whether registered on their own or attending free with an older brother or sister. 

Parents with infants may also register for the special “Babies Class,” which is offered as a one-semester introduction to Music Together, after which babies will attend mixed-age classes. The music activities and materials are specially designed for parents who want to learn as much as possible about music development in babies. Meet other parents of newborns and learn some fascinating music activities you can recreate at home with your baby.

 Pop-up Class

New families join us to experience a Music Together class! This class is designed for babies, toddlers, preschoolers, and their grown-ups.

New families join us to experience a Music Together Babies class! This class is designed for babies 9 months and younger. 

 Jingle Jam

A Jingle Jam class is a holiday-themed, indivudal class experience. Join us for 45 minutes of singing, dancing, instrument-playing, wiggling and playing to holiday tunes AND Music Together® favorites! 

The price of this class is $22 for the first child and $10 for siblings. As always, infant siblings under 9 months old are free!

 Seasonal Sing Along

A Seasonal Sing Along is a seasonal-themed, indivudal class experience. Join us for 45 minutes of singing, dancing, instrument-playing, wiggling and playing to fun tunes AND Music Together® favorites! 

The price of this class is $22 for the first child and $10 for siblings. As always, infant siblings under 9 months old are free!

 Teddy Bear Picnic

The Teddy Bear Picnic Sing-Along is a themed, individual class experience. Join us for 45 minutes of singing, dancing, instrument-playing, and wiggling to teddy bear-themed songs and Music Together® favorites! 

Bring your favorite teddy bear or stuffed animal to this class!

The price of this class is $22 and $10 for siblings. As always infant siblings 9 months old and younger are free!
